Hi Michele, I was wondering about badge-worthy activities for the troops? Will there be guidelines for that, or are we allowed to make up our own per troop or individual? Reading the last field guide and some previous information makes me think that maybe we are going to be allowed to make up our own activities for badges and things. But I know you are working on badges also so I wanted to make sure before I started anything in my group. I wish there was a way to message you directly so I didn't have to put this on just a chat. Thank you!
Kelly, that is a great question thank you so much for asking. There is room for both! I’m working on a field guide that explains that, but also offers ideas on how to make your own badges. Then for the badges we release from our end… we have badge sketchbooks that talk about what they represent… and offer a few reflection questions to celebrate what that badge means to the person.
Our badges are celebration badges so they’re about celebrating everyday moments as well as larger milestones. And there is absolutely room for troops and individuals to create their own, based on their lived experience.
I mean, how awesome would it be if we all get together one day and have our sashes and can talk about what the badge is on them represent to our story?!?!
And thank you again for asking this because I realize there are a few things I need to add… Like a blank framework and basic sketchbook that makes it easy to create your own badge as a troop or as an individual member. does that answer your question? Yes that does answer my question. Would you mind giving a rough timeframe of when you expect to release the field guide? Obviously you're doing quite a lot and you have a real life too, so no big rush. But I don't want to duplicate or negate what you are suggesting, so I'd prefer to wait until your Field Guide comes out before making any badge activities and such on my own. Thanks again!
